mehro at Thalia Hall

By Ally Iseminger

The very second opening indie artist mehro steps into visibility on stage at Thalia Hall, the barricade begins to vibrate from screams. The 23 year old brunette, soft-spoken star obviously has an it-factor to him; he is able to captivate the crowd from the very beginning. Accompanied by his guitar, he begins his set by singing a heartache-filled ballad. His presence alone is enough to fill the stage with sincerity and honesty, alongside the entire audience as the place falls silent. All eyes on mehro, his authenticity is transcribed through his ethereal vocals and his trusty 6-string. As a song ends, the crowd erupts into applause and chants of “we love you!”. It is obvious from the short opening set that he has a strong and dedicated fanbase as they are quick to identify each song as he begins to strum.

“You’re driving but you’re lost,

You don’t know what you want.

We’ve all been used before.”

mehro’s opening set for Claire Rosinkranz was my introduction to the artist, and I am enthusiastic to follow along to see what comes from the Elliott Smith and Phoebe Bridgers reminiscent musician. If you are able to catch mehro as he continues to tour with Claire Rosinkranz and DWLLRS through March, I would highly recommend. You can find mehro on all streaming services as well as Instagram under @mehromusic.
