Beabadoobee shows us how to party on a weekday with her new single “Talk” and brings that party into her own world called Beatopia (pronounced Bay-A-Toe-Pee-Uh.) Within a world she has carried with her since she was just 7 years old, Bea brings her singer-songwriter style to a new level. Mixes of fuzzypop, psychedelia, and a hint of 90s grunge, tells the story of leading a wild night out on a Tuesday. “I wrote ‘Talk’ just after my first album. I was obsessed with Tuesday because I thought it was the best night to go out, not too much chaos but just enough to have a good time,” says Bea on what inspired her to write the track. “Generally, it’s about doing things that aren’t necessarily healthy or great for you, but you can’t help indulging. It’s like that unavoidable feeling that you get. You can’t get rid of it, and you know it’s bad, but you love it really, and it's whatever, so you do it anyways.” Most listeners, especially if you’re in your 20s, will relate to Bea on this one. The complications of going out on days you know you shouldn’t and making terrible decisions that you might regret later (spoiler: you will) are the themes of “Talk” which I think pair perfectly with the overall vibe of the song. It’s messy and gritty in all the right places.

Listening to Bea’s new song has gotten me excited for the future of her sound and Beatopia as a whole. I’m a huge fan of artists who take on new challenges and sounds, which I believe Bea is going to deliver flawlessly. I love a woman artist who takes on a grittier and edgier sound, and my hopes are high with Bea. We can anticipate that Beatopia is going to contrast the tone of Fake It Flowers, released in 2020, but in the best way possible. I’m always interested in seeing how an artist grows and takes different shapes as they mature and grow not only within themselves, but within their sound. The world and concept of Beatopia being something that Bea has held close with her since she was a child makes the album that much more special. While listening, I found it hard to believe that this is the same girl who wrote “Coffee” but I can’t emphasize how much of a compliment that is. Her music is starting to show us range; being able to hit different genres and topics. The artwork for Beatopia also reflects the vibe of the song perfectly, as well as the music video. I can say with 100% certainty that I'm going to be blasting this song in my car with the windows down the second it decides to get warmer outside.

Her fuzzypop jam brings us into a new era for Bea; but she still stays true to who she is. At just 21 years old, she has become one of the main pop voices for Gen Z, and rightfully so. Gen Z listeners want an artist they can relate to and see themselves in, which is exactly who Bea is. “Talk” is the first single off her highly anticipated sophomore album Beatopia, which lands on all streaming services July 15th. You can pre-order Beatopia here and catch her on tour in 2022.
