the driver era's new video takes us away

By Mackenzie Wagner

On July 24, Rocky and Ross Lynch of The Driver Era released the official video for their song “Take Me Away." The video premiered on MTV’s Friday Live Stream, where they ended up in the top 5 fan-requested artists the week before. Typical of the Lynch brothers, the video was directed and produced with the help of their cousin Gordy De St. Jeor and their brother, Ryland, and it was done incredibly well.

The video is very honest to the band’s sound, style, and connection as it depicts what the two brothers do best — playing their music together. The concept and quality of the video are exceptional. The continual flow of the shots is seamless and the flashing colors and lights are invigorating, especially when Ross is running through different scenes and in the transition between the brothers playing the drums. Rocky’s guitar solo is electrifying, and the strobing lights paired with various camera angles really amplifies that feeling. The dreamy but eclectic vibe of the video captures the essence of the song so well.

Rocky and Ross have proven to be incredibly versatile in their talents. Rocky plays both guitar and drums with such intensity, and Ross showcases his dance moves in a way that has never been depicted in The Driver Era’s videos before. Viewers are not only drawn to the band’s talent and passion but also their ability to portray it in their videos. Their passion for playing their music is evident, as in the video, it is almost as if they are playing “Take Me Away” for a sold-out crowd. Although the band’s tour has been postponed, it will be exciting to see that passion interpreted on stage at the rescheduled dates.

The Driver Era truly never disappoints when they release new work. Rocky and Ross are making creative decisions and taking risks now more than ever, and it is paying off. By producing their own work, they are able to experiment with their ideas and that truly translates in both their songs and their videos. The “Take Me Away” video proves that their work is becoming more authentic and true to their nature with every new release. The music video for “Take Me Away” is incredibly well done, and can be found on the band’s YouTube channel.
